The front-end coordination token for The ZAO ecosystem on Base. Designed to reward creators, route through SANG, and integrate with Empire Builder and SongJam.
What it is
ZABAL is an ERC-20 token on Base (chainId 8453) launched January 1, 2026, with a total supply of 100 billion tokens and 18 decimals.[1] It is designed as the primary user-facing token for The ZAO ecosystem - a way to reward content creators, coordinate across integrations, and route liquidity to paired protocols like SongJam via SANG.
The name reflects its role: ZABAL is the token you interact with as a creator or user participating in The ZAO. It is paired with SANG, a sister token that routes through SongJam's reward mechanics. The designed flow is not ZABAL to ETH directly, but ZABAL to ETH to SANG - a three-hop route that optimizes pricing through a multi-path swap aggregator on thin liquidity pools.
Tokenomics
ZABAL operates on a deflationary model with fixed creator rewards and a burn mechanism. The economics are designed around COC Concertz promoter incentives and are meant to grow with ecosystem adoption.

Creator rewards
Content creators earn fixed ZABAL rewards for participation in The ZAO ecosystem, with a 10 percent automatic burn on all earned amounts to create deflationary pressure as adoption grows.

Rewards are designed for COC Concertz promoters but the token mechanics are general. Any role that routes through the reward system follows the same burn pattern. Vesting was intentionally skipped - creators get instant access to keep friction low, and the 10 percent burn achieves the same deflationary effect without restricting behavior.
The ZABAL-SANG routing mechanic
ZABAL does not have deep liquidity paired directly with ETH or USDC. Instead, the designed swap path is ZABAL to ETH to SANG using a smart order router like 0x Swap API v2, which aggregates liquidity across 150+ sources including Uniswap, Aerodrome, Curve, and other liquidity venues on Base.[1]
The rationale: SANG (SongJam's token) is the protocol's connection to music earnings, and routing through SANG deepens liquidity for both tokens while aligning with SongJam's tokenomics. A direct ZABAL-to-ETH or ZABAL-to-USDC swap would fragment the liquidity. The multi-hop route - handled transparently by the aggregator - optimizes pricing and keeps transaction cost at roughly 0.1 percent 0x affiliate fee plus gas sponsorship via Base Paymaster.
Integration with Empire Builder and SongJam
ZABAL is intended as the front-end token inside two key applications:
Farcaster mini-app where users earn ZABAL for engagement and contribution. ZABAL balance unlocks social features and leaderboard standings.
Music earning protocol. ZABAL can be routed to SANG and then to SongJam's reward pool for artists and supporters. Part of The ZAO's onchain music rails.
Role in The ZAO
ZABAL is the lightweight front-end coin. It sits between the user layer (creators, traders, fans) and the protocol layer (SANG, WaveWarZ, Respect tokens, governance). It rewards participation without imposing complex vesting or governance overhead. It is paired with SANG not as a competitor but as a complement - ZABAL gets you in the door, SANG routes you deeper into music earnings.
It does not replace Respect tokens (OG Respect on Optimism, ZOR Respect for long-term governance contributors). It does not replace ZOUNZ (the Nouns-style governance NFT). It is not meant to be the primary liquidity venue for artists or collectors. It is the onboarding token for The ZAO community.
Current on-chain state
ZABAL contract is live and verified on Base. Real-time stats as of July 10, 2026:
The token exists and functions. Supply tracking, burn mechanics, and delegation are implemented. Adoption remains minimal - the token has not yet achieved the scale of activity the original design anticipated. This is not a technical failure; it is an adoption reality.
Comparison: design vs. reality
The research documents from April 2026 describe ZABAL as operational and integrated with COC Concertz promoter rewards, agent wallet swaps via Privy and 0x, and SongJam routing. The contract, architecture, and mechanics are all deployed and proven to work. What has not happened is adoption at scale. 360 holders is a working network but a small one. $552 in liquidity is real but minimal. 26 transfers in a day shows the token is being used, but not widely.
This is not uncommon for coordination tokens in early-stage ecosystems. The question is not "does this work?" but "what would it take to accelerate adoption?" The answer is not more engineering; the infrastructure is done. It is more integration with the tools creators already use (newsletters, social, content platforms), more WaveWarZ battles driving visibility, and more SongJam momentum to make the SANG route valuable.
Risks and open questions
Liquidity depth. At $552 in the ZABAL/ETH pool, slippage on trades larger than a few thousand dollars is severe. Adoption depends on liquidity bootstrapping - either through concentrated LP incentives or through organic growth as more creators earn and hold ZABAL.
Adoption and ecosystem integration. The token was designed for COC Concertz promoters and agent swaps. COC Concertz is live but creator participation varies. Agent wallet integration (via Privy + 0x) is built but not actively in use at scale. Empire Builder, the intended Farcaster front-end, exists but has not reached the adoption that would drive ZABAL volume.
SANG dependency. The designed ZABAL-to-SANG routing means ZABAL's utility is tied to SANG's growth. If SongJam does not accelerate, the route remains theoretical rather than practiced. Conversely, if SongJam gains traction, ZABAL becomes essential to the path.
Price discovery. Current price is effectively zero on-chain ($0.0000001429 as of April 2026, unchanged in practice). This is not indicative of a failed token - many sub-cent tokens function fine at scale. But it means early holders, including creators who earned ZABAL, are not seeing the speculative or long-term wealth-creation dynamics that drive adoption narratives.
Regulatory clarity. ZABAL is a utility token on a public blockchain. The regulatory environment for utility tokens on Base (an Ethereum L2) is still evolving. This is a known, shared risk across The ZAO's tokenomics, not unique to ZABAL.
What's next / how to get involved
Creators. Earn ZABAL through COC Concertz newsletters, social posts, and show recaps. ZABAL appears in your balance and can be held, traded via 0x, or routed to SANG.
Builders and integrators. The contract and agent wallet flows are open and verified. If you are building on Base and want to integrate ZABAL rewards or routing, the infrastructure exists. Reach out through The ZAO.
Liquidity providers. The ZABAL/ETH pool at $552 is an opportunity for LPs to capture concentrated fees as volume grows. Uniswap V4 concentrated liquidity structures are live for this pair.
Ecosystem partners. SANG integration partners (SongJam, WaveWarZ, Empire Builder) drive the value of the ZABAL-SANG route. Expanding integration with SongJam in particular would increase the utility of holding and routing ZABAL.
